The GreenHouse on Iltisstrasse in Cologne is based on an ecological concept. It has been renovated to be carbon-neutral and aims to make a sustainable contribution to the urban climate through the use of geothermal energy, solar power and green facades, with the involvement of the tenants.

Hartung and Trenz refer to the building’s ecological concept, taking into account Karl Blossfeldt’s plant photographs. Growth and decay are visualised on the façade through language and organic forms.

The animated texts were generated using modified AI and consist of three different haikus that explore the specific milieu of the Ehrenfeld district in Cologne, depict the connection between city and nature, and evocatively recall Karl Blossfeldt’s botanical illustrations.

Karl Blossfeldt:

“My botanical illustrations are intended to help re-establish a connection with nature. They are meant to reawaken a sense of nature, draw attention to the rich variety of forms found in nature, and encourage people to observe our native flora for themselves.”

“Nature is thus to be regarded as a ‘teacher’ for art and technology.”
